Sharing Knowledge

Franklin County Extension received a $15,000 grant from the Southeast Center for Agricultural Health and Injury Prevention. The grant represents a significant step toward enhancing agricultural safety in Franklin County. It will provide crucial support for the recently donated grain bin extraction equipment received by Franklin County Public Safety from the Franklin County Farm Bureau Board. The project’s inception was the result of a collaborative effort between Farm Bureau and Virginia Cooperative Extension and recognizes the need for specialized training in Franklin County for both public safety personnel and farmers. CPR and first aid classes will be offered in 2024.

“With the encouragement of my Extension agent, Amber Wilson, I was able to compete in this year’s 4-H State Horse Show. Amber helped me through the entire process and cheered me on at the event. I have been able to experience new opportunities by participating in this event.”

“I have helped several new local business owners obtain ServSafe Manager certification. As a result, Sago’s and Mitchell Community Store now have food service areas in their stores, and seating is now available. Providing ServSafe training for business owners has increased their profits and provided a much-needed service to food deserts in the community.”
