Sharing Knowledge
Carroll County community members identified a need for positive youth development programs that incorporate basic life skills. This year, Carroll County 4-H and the Hillsville Farmers Market partnered to launch the Youth Entrepreneurship Program. Our goal was to provide the opportunity for youth to learn about entrepreneurship through hands-on, experiential learning.
During this program, youth learned about marketing, record-keeping, and communicating with customers. They gained life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and work ethic during two interactive workshops. After presenting a product pitch and receiving feedback from family and friends, the seven youth participants sold their products at the Hillsville Farmers Market. Their wares included jams, baked goods, produce, wooden crafts, and jewelry.

Partners for Solutions
“I sponsor a monthly beekeepers meeting. The meetings originated when I was approached by local citizens who were concerned about the decline of honeybee populations. Surveys show that by implementing the management practices learned at these meetings, beekeepers have increased hive survivability and generated additional income.”
