2023 NASS Cropland and Pastureland Rental Rates

Every year in August the USDA National Agricultural Statistical Service (NASS) releases cash rental rates for 3 distinct land classes in Virginia as mandated by the 2008 Farm Bill. Rental rates for irrigated and non-irrigated cropland and pastureland were recently released for Virginia counties and cities. Provided below is:

  • Table 1: 2023 rental rates by jurisdiction for irrigated and non-irrigated cropland and pastureland

NASS rental rates are annual values collected from NASS surveys, with the 2023 values reported below in $/acre. All data can be found at http://quickstats.nass.usda.gov/ in the USDA-NASS Quick Stats Database. If there are enough responses to meet NASS disclosure requirements, values for the jurisdiction are published. If there are insufficient responses, NASS does not publish a rate for that jurisdiction. For example, in Table 1 the specific rental rate for non-irrigated cropland in Bedford is $25.00 per acre. NASS also publishes an “Other County” value for counties who had insufficient responses to meet disclosure requirements. The last section of Table 1 lists the “Other County” values which can be applied to jurisdictions without a published value. State averages are also listed in the last section of Table 1.
